MAARA KAI
On our whānau whenua, we've established a thriving 20-meter by 6-meter garden known as the Māra Kai. Over the past year and a half, we've diligently sourced thousands of seeds for vegetables and herbs, ensuring self-sufficiency for years to come. By eliminating the need to purchase seeds, we've taken significant steps towards sustainability. Already, the Māra Kai has provided sustenance for five homes on our whenua, a number we hope to increase. This year, we've expanded our efforts by planting more kumara. The Māra Kai has become an integral part of our daily lives; whether we're harvesting herbs, fruit, or vegetables, it ensures a constant supply of fresh produce. Rising food prices and limited availability have been strong motivators for our whānau to establish, cultivate, and preserve our kai, enriching our lives in countless ways.
